In the wake of the Weinstein fallout, there is one Hollywood voice that is sadly missed, that of Carrie Fisher. Carrie would probably have so much tea to spill right now they’d have to send snorkels out with the Oscar ballots. Carrie never did truck with no assholes, bullies or fools. She was not the one to be intimidated or let her voice be ignored, and seemed like the kind of person to stick up for others too. And according to her longtime friend Heather Ross, that is exactly the kind of person she was.
People reports that Carrie once took on a powerful movie producer in the most gangster way possible (her parents did pal around with Frank Sinatra after all) who tried some shit with her friend Heather. During an interview on the Tucson, Arizona radio station 94.9 MixFM, Heather said she was once invited to dinner by an “Oscar-winning producer” (not Harvey). He picked her up, and during the car ride, he pulled over, climbed on top of her and pinned her down. She was able to push him off and as she escaped he yelled “You’ll never make a movie in my town and get the fuck out of my car”. Heather told her friend Carrie about the incident and she was having none. of. that. Heather said:
“About two weeks later, she sent me a message online and she said, ‘I just saw [blank] at Sony Studios. I knew he would probably be there, so I went to his office and personally delivered a Tiffany box wrapped with a white bow.”
Sorry, folks it wasn’t an Oscar’s head in the box.
“I asked her what was inside and she said, ‘It was a cow tongue from Jerry’s Famous Deli in Westwood with a note that said, ‘If you ever touch my darling Heather or any other woman again, the next delivery will be something of yours in a much smaller box!’”
I mean isn’t this just the most Carrie Fisher of Carrie Fisher stories ever? The ovaries on that woman! The note: Perfection. The personal delivery: Outstanding. The Tiffany box: Inspired. The fact that she got the tongue from a Jewish deli in Westwood: Everything. Heather said of Carrie:
“It felt validating to know, ‘Okay, first of all, this woman who I love as a friend was not just a fake Hollywood friend. That’s who she was. She spoke out and she put things out there in your face.”
IEven after Carrie’s death, she’s still a ray of light that continues to inspire, embolden and delight us with her fucking badassery.
